Opens For the Season May 5th.Garlyn Zoo is a small "mom and pop" family-owned business. The zoo sits on 30 acres of land at the very top of Lake Michigan, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is surrounded by thousands of acres of state and federal forests.Garlyn Zoo was started in 1994 and built on old sand dunes at the northernmost point of Lake Michigan.
"We have the zoo because we have had animals all our lives and love the animals and enjoy sharing them with others. It is our hopes that by having an opportunity to view and enjoy the animals close up, both online and in-person, that you will come away with a greater feeling for the need to protect and preserve our wild places," Owners Gary and Lynn

What is the best time to see the animals?
The short answer is whenever you're in the U.P. However, the best time to see the animals active is early or late in the day. During the mid-day especially if it's hot, they will be laying in the shade and not very active. This isn't because they are bored or depressed but because they are content and have a full belly.
